CASE
Sub Scene is the most important all-age cultural centre and underground music venue in Oslo. At Sub you will get to experience concerts from up and coming hardcore, metal and indie bands from all over the world, like The Chariot, The Ghost Inside, iwrestledabearonce, Comeback Kid, Converge, Born of Osiris, Napalm Death, Northlane, After the Burial and Deez Nuts, years before headlining and selling out Rockefeller, Vulkan Arena and Oslo Spektrum. You can also attend to various events like open mic, movie nights, board game evenings, book launches and japanese cultural events hosted by Sub Japan.

I started hanging out at Sub Scene in 2010 and got to know a lot of good people that would later become friends. It was also a springboard to my career as I got to do music photography at live shows and even had my first proper band meeting in the café where we got together to discuss the future of the band and design band logos. Sub Scene and the people there had given me so much that I wanted to give back to the community by applying for a graphic design job. I was fortunate enough to get hired and get more roles added to my position as time went by.

This design case covers and even expands past 1½ years of work as In-House Graphic Designer and PR Manager, including event and music photography.

Sub is funded by Oslo Kommune and Kulturdirektoratet including other donors and is run daily by Sub Church. This place exists to offer everyone (prioritizing youth) the opportunity to get music lessons, band rehearsals and play live. By paying Sub Scene a visit, you can connect with the community and get offered real work experience by volunteering in positions such as photographer, barista, sound technician, security or event host. Or maybe you're just swinging by to get the best Oreo milkshake in town.
