PROJECT
Designated
COURSE
Digital Design
SUBJECT
Interactive Design
DURATION
Two weeks
BRIEFING
The task was to design a fully interactive iPad magazine with Mag+, discussing the possible death of print and book design as screen based newspapers, magazines and eBooks are taking over the market.
INTRODUCTION
Designated is an interactive magazine exploring the pros and cons of interactive editorial design tailored for the iPad from the ground up. Designated as the killer of print, screen based design, which in this case is presented on the iPad, owes everything to the original printed medium it derives from.
This concept combines heavily typographic puzzle fragments of poster inspired typesetting with traditional typographic looks and set of rules, which you would find in a printed magazine or book. The final product challanges the idea of how editorial design published on tablets is supposed to look like, and results in a hybrid between digital and print design, rather than just porting a printed edition to a zoomable PDF, which most publishers do these days.
